Finding an effective approach to engage staff in quality management can be challenging. Try creating an environment that encourages participation through team building activities where staff are empowered to contribute to quality conversations and improvement.
Sonya Kelso, Manager of Laboratory Services and Infection Prevention and Control at Brockville General Hospital shares how their facility incorporates quality through “Binder Day.”
“At our recent team meeting, everyone was asked to bring a binder from the area they work at without explanation. During the quality portion of our team meeting (a standing item on our agenda) we reviewed the retention guidelines outlined in our policy and, as a team, reviewed each item and discussed which criteria the guideline met and why. This was a fun learning and team building activity.”
Sonya adds their team is also “using this fun activity to both declutter and reinforce… document control.”
Interactive team exercises like “Binder Day” are an engaging way to educate staff about retention times while cleverly clearing out your facility’s old records. Kudos to the team at Brockville General Hospital laboratory for demonstrating quality at your facility!
